NEW! Magic City Cycle Chix is hosting two women’s group rides this season, running March 17 through Nov 2. (And we hope to recruit more leaders so we can offer an MC3 presence at other rides as well.) Big thanks to MC3 leader Angela Schmidt for organizing the ride leaders and rides.
Please check this calendar for updates on rides and events.
Mondays: MC3 Beginner/Recovery Road Ride
Every Monday, this casual, no-drop ride rolls out at 5:30pm from Birmingham Bicycle Company (Note: it will leave at 5:15 pm on 3/17 and 3/24.) This 17-mile loop has no major hills and not too much traffic. Experienced ride leaders will set a beginner-friendly pace and will teach road riding etiquette as well as single and double pace lines. No chix left behind!
Wednesdays: Beginner MTB Ride
This weekly ride rolls at 6 p.m. from the South Trailhead at Oak Mountain State Park ($3 park admission). The route and length will be determined by ride leaders to accommodate each group’s goals, fitness level, and riding ability. A no-hammer social ride that may end with a little trail-gating. (BYOB)
Note: We love our Manbassadors. But to keep these rides as unintimidating as possible, these rides are for women only. Our mission is to build courage, confidence, and community, two wheels at a time. We connect and support women who ride bikes by providing a friendly social network, regular girls-only rides, skill-building events, and a non-competitive environment. We believe biking is good for your health and good for your soul, and it’s not just about being active; it’s about having fun.

MC3 U: MTB mini skills-clinic series
We’re reformatting our popular women’s MTB clinics into a season-long series of 2-hour mini-clinics that focus on one skill at a time. Held twice a month and coached by IMBA-certified instructors, this series is designed to let you customize your own curriculum. You can take them la carte or progress through the series, which begins with fundamental bike-handling (bike-body separation, proper braking) and builds each week to focus on more advanced skills (drops, wheel lifts, high speed cornering). These will meet at 3 p.m. on designated Sundays at the South Trailhead of Oak Mountain State Park. Click here for details or contact kimhcross (at) yahoo (dot) com for more info.
