Road riders, mark your calendar for another great supported ride, coming this April. The route has changed (see notes below) but the fun-spirit of the ride has not. If anyone is interested in getting an unofficial MC3 group to ride together (sort of like we did for the Tour de Cahaba), please speak up!
What: Supported 100-mile road ride
When: 8 a.m., Saturday, April 14, 2012
Where: Tannehill Ironworks, 30 mi SW of B’ham at I-59 Exit 100
Details: Riders loved the quiet – but not the rough roads – of past routes through the Cahaba Wildlife Mgmt Area, so for 2012 the WMA’s been cut in favor of a faster, smoother return past Helena. Route options are 44, 66, 78 and 100 miles. The long routes still visit Montevallo but have about 10% less climbing overall this year. More of the climbing comes early, though, so the short options will be comparatively more challenging. Sag vehicles will patrol the routes and rest stops will offer drinks, snacks and restrooms. Enjoy a hot meal and relax after the ride – or just grab a bite and “switch horses” to check out the new mtb trails at Tannehill. Event proceeds will benefit further trail work.
